Living in Western Pennsylvania, retaining walls have
become a necessity. There are several different manufactures of
segmental retaining walls, but we have found the Unilock products
to be the best. They may be more expensive than the competition,
however when investing in a wall or patio you want it to look great
and
last for a very long time.
Installing the proper base, using sufficient gravel behind the
wall for drainage, and proper tie back materials, makes the difference
if your wall will stand or not.
Layout and design are the most important features. Form follows
function is a good rule of thumb when doing a hardscaping design.
Place steps and sidewalks where you walk, not where you want people
to walk. Keep walls as low as possible, you want the overall landscaping
to look good not for everyone to notice the wall. Whenever possible,
incorporate pillars, decorative walls and lights, this will ensure
that your project is unique.
